Texas Cattle Quarantine Begins to Curb Shipments
The Agriculture Department announced a federal quarantine of Texas cattle starting January 5 1976 to halt brucellosis spread. Exemptions apply to steers and spayed heifers while indemnities to infected cattle and federal testing support cease January 1. A “qualified herd” designation requires two consecutive brucellosis free tests and separate testing for each shipment within 30 days. More than 100 Indian tribes lived in California at one time.
