Informed sources say District Attorney James Garrison will send the Haggerty case to the grand jury. Haggerty, white-haired criminal judge, was arrested at a stag party linked to a friend’s wedding. He faces soliciting prostitution and multiple counts of assault on police, resisting arrest, and conspiracy to commit obscenity.
Sheila Ant Siefken daughter of Delbert and Mrs Siefken of Lincoln was baptized at St John Lutheran Church with Rev Otto Schiegelmilch officiating. Sponsors were Merlen Siefken of Red Oak. A noon dinner followed at the maternal grandparents Roy Grateleuschen. The occasion marked the 23rd wedding anniversary of her parents and Fred Siefken's birthday.
UPI reports eleven New Yorkers died in fires on Thursday. In Brooklyn nine people died in a two story tenement and seven children from one family perished with a family friend. Fourteen others were injured including four in critical condition. A Bronx fire claimed three lives late Thursday. The Brooklyn blaze possibly started by faulty Christmas ice lights amid a landlord’s neglect of hazards.
Ak-Sar-Ben contributed eighteen thousand dollars to twelve area hospitals for charity care at a breakfast event. Checks of one thousand five hundred dollars each were presented by Edward Qwen of the Public Affairs Committee. The aid totals two hundred seventy four dollars and fifty cents over four years for hospitals not funded by tax funds or the United Fund. Recipient hospitals include Archbishop Bergan Mercy Booth Memorial Children Clarkson Doctors Immanuel Jennie Edmundson Lutheran Mercy of Council Bluffs Nebraska Methodist St. Catherine's and St. Joseph's.
