Omaha area livestock ratings show hogs 1.50 to 3.00 higher on lighter weights and 2.50 to 3.00 higher on 270 to 325 pound hogs. Cattle and calves mostly higher with loads of steers and heifers at 38.15 to 38.25 and 36.00 to 37.25 for various weights. Sheep scarce with woolled lambs 38.00 to 99.00, receipts about 6,000 cattle and calves and hogs 6,000 with 500 sheep expected.

Federal hearing in Lincoln tests if 1868 Laramie Treaty justified actions during the 1873 occupation of Wounded Knee. Indian historian Rev. Peter Powell testified on treaty goals and sovereignty as U.S. District Judge Warren Urbom presided. Powell described tribes’ view of justice administered by chiefs and holy men on Sioux land.
Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia ends an eight week romance with actor Richard Burton. She returns to her husband Neil Balfour in London with son Nicholas and two daughters. Friends say Burton's drinking contributed to the split.
The Supreme Court upheld the Rail Reorganization Act by a 7 to 2 vote, allowing continued operation of bankrupt Northeast and Midwest railroads. The ruling overruled a lower court that had found the act violated creditors and shareholders rights by operating at a loss. The day included actions on FOIA records, obscenity appeals, radio licenses, patent expiration, and election dispute hearings in Pittsburgh.
