Conservation plans vital for farms
More than 500 Polk County farmers have a conservation plan on their property, says the Soil Conservation Service. The plan inventories soil, water and plant resources from aerial photos and serves as a blueprint for improving and maintaining productive land. It emphasizes coordinated, overall farm planning to prevent costly, piecemeal erosion fixes. The SCS invites farmers to contact or visit the office to develop plans and protect soil and water resources. Miss Alice Ahern observed her 90th birthday in Leigh, having taught grades in Leigh from 1948 to 1933.
