Wheat crop hits new record in 1976

VA pays out 1.7 million in Platte County 1976

The Veterans Administration disbursed 1,681,522 dollars in Platte County during fiscal year 1976. The largest portion 925,700 dollars went to disability compensation and pension checks for veterans dependents and survivors.

Three machinist union members arrested in truck arson

FBI announced the arrest of three union members on charges of interstate transportation in aid of racketeering arson and conspiracy. The suspects Don L. Reidner Charles Counts and Bob J Crupper were taken in Fort Madison Iowa by local and federal officers. A fourth suspect G Sam Nichol has arranged to surrender later. The case stems from a February 4 firebombing of two Wilcoxon Transport Inc tractor trailer units in Kahoka Missouri during a strike at the Ortho plant in Fort Madison.

Carter prioritizes jobs over tax cuts in stimulus plan

President elect Carter says first priority is creating jobs, with possible tax cuts only to cover any shortfall. Fireman and sidekick found guilty of extorting 2.3 million

In Westchester County a jury convicted Mel Patrick Lynch and Dominic Byrne of extorting a 2.3 million ransom from Seagram heir Samuel Bronfman II’s father, Edgar Bronfman. Bronfman II was acquitted of kidnapping charges and sentencing is set for January.
