Hostage escapes four Florida inmates in jailbreak

WILLISTON Florida AP four women convicts escaped from the Florida Correctional Institution at Lowell Sunday night seizing supervisor Elizabeth Peeler at knifepoint and stabbing a guard. Police tracked them two miles into rugged woods where Peeler was found unharmed after a hunter reported seeing four women in dungarees and one in a dress. The escapees Judith Sikes Barbara Baker Carol Yeoman and Louise Hunter held Peeler for a night outdoors before capture by bloodhound guided police. Sikes and Baker were serving life terms for first degree murder.

Former Montana Governor Tim M. Babcock pleaded guilty to helping oil magnate Armand Hammer make illegal political contributions totaling 54000 to Nixon's 1972 reelection. He admitted making the payments in his and others’ names though the funds came from Hammer. Sentencing was postponed for a pre-sentence investigation.

Fire at Kutna farm starts in silage pile

Fire at the Donald Kutna farm southwest of Leigh Saturday confined to a silage pile causing minor damage.
