Life Magazine to Fold as Advertisers Depart

Life magazine, the third largest mass circulation publication, will cease with the December 29 issue as advertisers flee to television and narrower outlets. Rising production costs and higher postal rates also contributed, with Look and the Saturday Evening Post among the previous casualties in general interest magazines. Analysts say the shift to TV and new media reflects a changing market, not just corporate pressures.
