Kirk McGee, 73, longtime figure in country music and original Grand Ole Opry performers since 1925, is hospitalized in Franklin in fair condition with heart trouble. His brother Sam plays guitar as Kirk’s shows are curtailed due to illness.
KEARNEY Neb AP fire in southern district residence caused about 6000 dollars damage. Occupants Ed Dadey and his wife escaped injury. They heard a muffled explosion near the furnace and found flames around it. Owner Merle Johnson said the house was a total loss about 5000 dollars with 750 dollars in belongings destroyed. Volunteers fought the fire for about an hour.

The body of 21 year old Eric Brilliant of Boulder was found southeast of the Lake Eldora ski area near Nederland after he failed to return from a Monday cross country ski trip. Temperatures had dropped to 25 below zero. Brilliant was described as inexperienced at cross country skiing and not prepared for camping. Sheriff Brad Leach said he was reportedly on a one day trip when last seen.

Colorado Attorney General Duke W. Dunbar died after a stroke at 2:05 am in a Denver hospital. The 23 year veteran official had been in a semi comatose state since Thursday night after suffering a stroke at the state house office. The official cause of death was cerebral accident. Dunbar had served as assistant attorney general since 1941 and as Denver assistant city attorney from 1948 to 1950 before his 1950 election to attorney general. He attended a legislative committee meeting Thursday before returning to his office.
Norfolk Virginia reports Seaman Apprentice Jeffrey Allison, 19, of Oakland California, is sentenced to five years hard labor for arson and destruction of government property in the Forrestal fire. He faces automatic appeal. testimony cited drug problems and a possible flashback night of July 10 as contributing factors.
