Lincoln hospital buys second kidney dialysis machine

Lincoln Nebraska AP reports St Elizabeth Community Health Center in Lincoln purchases a second hemodialysis unit to meet rising demand. The $4 046 machine was funded by the hospital Auxiliary and makes Lincoln’s only general hospital with dialysis service.

Varner speaks on value of university in Nebraskan funding

President D B Varner of the University of Nebraska told a North Platte group that Nebraskans get their money's worth from university students. He noted 36 00 students at Omaha and Lincoln campuses cost taxpayers a dollar a year each. He said 80 percent of doctors and 70 percent of lawyers in Nebraska outside Omaha are graduates of the university. He cited two agronomists whose work added 20 million dollars to U S corn growers. About 190 North Platte Service Club members attended, joined by Dan Campbell, director of public affairs for the university.

Willa Cather seminar planned in Lincoln

The University of Nebraska Lincoln receives 14125 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to fund an international seminar on The Art of Willa Cather in Lincoln October 25 to 28 1973 as part of the Willa Cather Centennial Festival. 35 scholars from the United States Canada England France Italy and Japan will reexamine Cather’s techniques and themes in light of new discoveries. The festival runs through spring with events in Red Cloud and a publication by the University of Nebraska Press titled Uncle Valentine and Other Stories.
