Readings show rising temperatures in Nebraska as a warm south to southeast flow from a Great Lakes to Kansas high pressure system moves in. A low in western South Dakota drifts southeast bringing isolated thunderstorms to western Nebraska while northeastern areas stay sunny. Overnight lows 48 to 67, Sunday highs 89 to 93, with a gradual cooldown into midweek.

Radioactive contamination after Hanford plant blast
A chemical explosion at an Atlantic Richfield Hanford plant contaminated 8 to 10 workers with a radioactive substance. Fugitive Hansen Returned After Week of Freedom
Steven Hansen of Columbus turned himself in at Platte County Jail Sunday morning ending more than a week on the run after a work release escape on August 20. Congressional tax writers agreed to extend all current individual income tax cuts and make some permanent. The earned income credit would be extended through 1977 with a 10 percent payment on the first 4 000 of earnings, phasing out as income rises. Standard deductions stay at 16 percent with set minimum and maximum amounts, and a new credit of 35 dollars or 2 percent of the first 9 000 of taxable income would apply through 1977.
