Fighting slackens in Beirut amid ceasefire talks
In Beirut and the central mountains fighting eased as Palestinian leaders reportedly gave partial agreement to a rightist plan for a new cease fire. Leftist and rightist reports said only sporadic clashes persisted in the rugged area where about 1,200 guerrillas were sandwiched between 2,000 Christian troops and the Syrian army. In the capital shelling killed at least 21 civilians and wounded more than 36 overnight, but quieted by mid morning.
