Firefighters recover bodies after Gulf Oil refinery blaze

In Philadelphia the second of two Gulf Oil refinery fires killed six firefighters. Two bodies found by 9:30 a.m. and a third later, as the 11 alarm blaze damaged tanks and released naptha while crews prepared to shut valves. Ref refinery manager Burke recalled the rapid loss of control.

Mixed Nebraska Weather From Sunny Skies To Thunderstorms

A diverse weather picture covered Nebraska with sun in parts and heavy thunderstorms in others. North of a frontal boundary cooler air and mid 80s or lower prevailed in the east while light rain touched the north central border. storms were noted around Omaha, with rain shifting into southwest Iowa by midday and best chances remaining in northeast and northern Nebraska tonight.

The Inaugural Handicap features Roman Zippler at 124 top weight in a six furlong race for 3 year olds. nine entrants include horses carrying 111 to 115 pounds. Tuesday racing opens a 25 day meet running Tuesdays to Saturdays plus Labor Day with first post 4 p.m. weekdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Kidnapped Bronfman Youth Rescued in Brooklyn Apartment

Dominick Byrne led police to a Brooklyn one bedroom where Samuel Bronfman II was freed and accomplice Mel Lynch was captured. The $2.3 million ransom paid by Edgar Bronfman was recovered at Byrne’s elderly friend’s home. Byrne and Lynch, charged with extortion by mail, may face up to 20 years in prison.

Rabin confronts angry Knesset over Kissinger backed peace

Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin told an irate Israeli parliament session that the peace agreement is not final and could still fail. Right wing Likud lawmakers demand Rabin resign, while protesters outside the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv and Knesset rally against Kissinger and Rabin amid US assurances and shuttle diplomacy. Albion man killed in traffic accident near Albion

Curt Livingston, 23, of Albion was struck and killed Saturday night on Neb 91 about two miles east of Albion. He had parked on the highway shoulder and was talking to a friend when Robin Fletcher, also of Albion, struck him with her car.
