ARC summer program aids learning by doing for handicapped youth
For ten weeks in summer 14 trainable mentally retarded children aged 7 to 16 joined an ARC funded program offering earning and play activities. Sylvia Johnson led the program with study in math English writing spelling reading and social knowledge plus songs and exercises. Afternoons featured recreation and bowling was popular. Johnson, assistants, and volunteers supported one-to-one instruction as feasible amid staffing limits. PCARC and NE ARC affiliations guided funding, advocacy, scholarships, and PVOMR monitoring. the effort aims to provide year round learning and inclusion for handicapped residents.

City fails to halt landfill actions in injunction bid
In Platte County District Court Judge Dale Fahmbrucht dismissed the city's attempt to stop environmental officials from enforcing a landfill closure. Stephanie Behlen remained in critical condition at Memorial Hospital in Omaha Friday night. Her father Kurt Behlen said her vital signs were stable but noted paralysis in one arm, a broken pelvis, and a fractured skull after she ran into a pickup truck driven by her father near their Mahood Drive home.
