Duncan elementary bid awarded for new building

Columbus Board of Education accepted the low bid from Lacy Building and Supply of Grand Island for a 12,000 square foot Duncan elementary school at 382,900 with demolition of the old building at 7,150. Work to start in about 10 days, completion expected Aug 18, 1978. Furniture bids opened, board to meet Aug 22 for potential Behlen roof. Public budget hearing set for 7:30 p.m. today.

Berkowitz Surrenders End of the Son of Sam Manhunt

David Berkowitz, 24, confessed to eight ambush killings linked to the Son of Sam case. Suspect David Berkowitz traced during Houston visit

Federal investigators traced the June 1976 Houston visit of Son of Sam suspect David Berkowitz to a local pawn shop purchase of a Bulldog 44 revolver by Billy Dan Parker. Nebraskas mostly clear high 80s across the state

A dominant high pressure system keeps Nebraska weather clear with mid 80s afternoon highs and southwest winds at 5 to 10 mph. Geneva man charged with assault in teen dance case

Geneva resident Thomas Schwartz, 28, is jailed in Boone County on a $25,000 bond after being bound over to district court on a felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm charge. The alleged beating of a 17 year old Albion girl after an Aug 5 teen dance left her listed in fair condition at Norfolk Hospital. Sheriff Dick Johnson said a late month court date is possible but not yet set.
