Campaign contributions flow into fund for Nixon re election

Campaign donors poured 2.45 billion into Nixon’s reelection fund in June and July as Republicans comply with a new law. Wealthy backers join thousands of small contributors in the June filings, including Pew family members who gave 36 thousand and W Clement Stone with 23 thousand. Edward Wand and spouse also contributed 23 thousand. The Finance Committee says more than 5,000 individuals gave, with about 10 million raised before April 7. Donations between April 7 and May 31 were reported in June under the new rules.

ARAPAHOE Neb AP The State Patrol said Roy T Mason 21 of Modesto Calif was killed Sunday night in a near Weadon crash about two miles east of Arapahoe on Routes both drivers were involved in the crash with Robert L Jackson Jr 16 of Danbury Neb the other driver Fer Ross of Cambridge Neb The victim was identified after a scene mixup The Republican National Convention is Aug 21 23 and records show committees spent 4 01 million in June and July with a 7 76 million balance including a 304 payment to Janes W McCord for closed circuit TV equipment He was former security coordinator for the committee who was arrested June 17 and fired two days later

Four Die in U.S. 30 Wreck Near Potter Nebraska

Four people were killed Monday when a pickup and a semitrailer collided on U.S. 30 near the Point of Rocks about three miles east of Potter. Victims: pickup driver Joe Cizek, 68, and passengers Eugene Marin Bilis, 48, and Wayne Brauer, 14, all of Sidney, plus semi truck driver Ernest E. La Pele, 37, of Corona, California. State Patrol said the semi was eastbound and the pickup westbound. Nebraska highway death toll for the year reached 255, up from 238 traffic deaths by Aug. 8.

Prowler Shot Wounded in Nebraska Home Invasion

In Neligh Nebraska a prowler broke into State Patrolman William Bailey's home early Sunday. Mrs Bailey, alone with her husband on duty, fired a 22 caliber pistol through a locked door after discovering the intruder. The intruder fled. blood was found in the doorway and on the sidewalk.

WACs Alter Uniforms to Attract Enlistees

The Women's Army Corps plans stylish uniforms and broader job roles to recruit more women for the all volunteer army. Director Major General Mildred Bailey announced expansion goals to 15,900 this year and 24,000 by 1978, with women increasingly filling noncombat, technical, and clerical posts alongside men.
