Four Ordinances Ahead at City Council Meeting

City Council to discuss four ordinances at 8 p.m. in City Chambers on 11th Street. Items include fire prevention code adoption, Howard Boulevard sidewalk district creation, licensure amendments, and sale of City property on Howard Boulevard. Two resolutions seek sidewalk district authority and a traffic signal study agreement with the Nebraska Department of Roads. Mysterious illness kills 19 Legion members in Pennsylvania

Harrisburg officials reported 19 deaths from a mysterious illness linked to a Philadelphia American Legion convention. The virus like disease, possibly swine flu, has hospitalized 73 people including victims' spouses. No firm cause yet. autopsies and samples sent to Philadelphia for analysis. Statewide investigation ordered. officials urge no panic.

Preliminary 1974 Census figures show 1 411 Platte County farms reporting agricultural sales totaling 56 970 000. Farms with 2 500 or more in sales totaled 1 308, contributing 56 857 000 of the total. Average farm size rose to 301 acres and value per acre to 501 dollars. Livestock and products accounted for 34 061 000. poultry 239 000. crops including nursery products and hay 22 558 000.

Auburn man dies in truck accident at building

Auburn Neb. 17 year old David Whitehouse was killed Monday when pinned between a truck and a building. Randall Rogge 18 was backing up the truck at the scene, authorities said.
