Regents to elect Dana College president in special Blair session

Dana College officials will convene a special session at Blair on April 21 to choose a new college president. The joint meeting includes Dr. Kent Knutson, bishop of the American Lutheran Church, and Dr. Charles Bruning, chairman of college education, from a slate of five nominees. Agriculture Department to raise grain storage rates July 1

The Agriculture Department will boost storage rates for government surplus grain and price supported grain by 1.46 cents per bushel annually starting July 1. Commercial warehouses gain 0.5 cents for storage reception and 0.5 cents for loading out soybeans and seed. loading charges for ship movements also rise. Existing storage rates cover about 12 to 13 cents per bushel, with operators seeking roughly 5 cents more. The change ends a period without uniform rate changes since 1965, with some 1589 adjustments noted in load-out rates.

Deadline set for disaster unemployment aid filing

Commissioner Gerald Chizek of the Department of Labor Division of Employment announced a May 7 deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance. Applications are filed at Division offices in Fremont Norfolk Columbus and Omaha. Eligibility requires work in the disaster area and unemployment caused by the flood with both agricultural and nonagricultural workers potentially eligible. Weekly payments range from 44 to 48 dollars.

State to discuss Ft Robinson land transfer terms

Lincoln Nebraska State Game Commission Director Willard Barbee said a meeting will be held April 28 with federal officials to discuss turning over land for the Ft Robinson recreational complex. The plan, developed with CSU professor Arthur Wilcox, would co operate the site with the State Historical Society and the University of Nebraska and could include a fort renovation convention center golf course and ranch with camping and cabin facilities. Barbee noted funds not spent last year would be held for fort renovations including sewage electrical and water system improvements.
