Buck Island Named for Early Trapper Buck
Platte County notes Buck Island in the Laup River southeast of Columbus now a dry land attachment. In 1911-12 Louis Phillips owned the island and grazed goats to clear brush, but 1912 spring overflow destroyed the herd and most of the island. Some say Buck the trapper gave the name Buck Island, possibly originally Buck's Island.
