Soviet envoys seek Middle East peace via Geneva report
Ha'aretz cites two Soviet envoys close to the Kremlin pressing Israel for a Geneva backed peace, offering border guarantees if Israel returns to pre 1967 lines and promising resume of diplomatic ties. Israeli officials reportedly demand a wide peace deal and border changes, while Mordechai Gur warns US arms won’t meet needs though US support will likely endure as long as Moscow backs the Arabs.
