Kindergarten sign-up set for Columbus City schools
Registration for children entering kindergarten in September 1975 will be held during the second week of April at multiple Columbus schools. Children must be five by Oct 15, 1975 and birth certificates, immunization records, and health forms are required. Round-up times vary by school, with registrations at Emerson Highland Park Lincoln North Park Duncan West Park Field Lost Creek Williams and other campuses.

Old District 24 school fades from Platte Center history
Platte Center remembers the District 24 school that once towered over farmland and town. Seven hundred seventy seven graduates over 73 years studied there, with the last class in 1969 before consolidation with Lakeview High. The building, condemned and sold to local owners, is being razed while alumni plan a 22nd annual dinner for June 28 to reminisce and honor memories.

Leigh FFA Earns Governor's Plaque at Nebraska BOAC
Leigh FFA was named one of three top FFA chapters in the Building Our American Communities program and received the Governor's Citation plaque plus a $10 award for Rejuvenating a Community. The Leigh and Blair units will represent Nebraska at a national convention in Kansas City in November. Other honored chapters included Clarkson East Butler St. Edward Howells and Newman Grove.

Grand Prairie Township Name Origin Near Lake Babcock
Platte County place names trace the Grand Prairie designation to Stearns Prairie area named by surveyor James North and for OE Stearns who ran an inn on the Columbus to Norfolk route circa 1870. A school existed there and Stearns Precinct formed. Henry Hellbusch opposed the Stearns Prairie name, so the county board chose Grand Prairie, possibly from Longfellow’s Evangeline.
