Nebraska seeks disaster declaration for 16 counties
Gov. J. James Exon asked President Ford to declare a 16 county south central Nebraska region a major disaster after a severe sleet snow and wind storm. The storm caused damages over 20 million to utilities and an estimated 35 million in adverse economic impact. About 200000 residents live in the affected area over 12000 square miles. Generators were deployed with 61 in operation and additional units from Kansas and Iowa guards scheduled for delivery to aid restoration. The storm disrupted power across York and Fillmore counties with weeks of work predicted to repair 800 miles of lines and 1800 miles of poles damaged.

Cold Front Buffets Nebraska With Clouds and Cooler Temps
A cold front moved east from Nebraska, bringing increasing cloudiness and cooler weather. The system crossed extreme eastern Nebraska with a low near Sioux City, Iowa as a high pressure ridge followed. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph behind the front and southwest winds 15 to 20 mph ahead. Temperatures ranged from the mid 40s northwest to the mid 60s southeast with peaks in the 50s to low 80s.
