Seven members of one family were killed when a tractor trailer slammed into their station wagon on Interstate 75 near Tifton Georgia in dense fog at 3 50 a m The wreck sent the car 400 500 feet and into a ditch while a fire raged Five victims burned to death two died in the initial impact The deceased were Woodrow Edwards 60 of Tryon North Carolina Della Edwards 53 wife of Edwards Samuel Edwards 40 son of Woodrow Martha Edwarda Mitchell 32 daughter of Mrs Mitchell Carolyn 12 Audrey 11 and Johnny 9 Mitchells children Injured were Keith Edwards 20 Susan Mitchell 14 and truck driver Byrd Levar Hutchinson 38 all from Georgia Charges were filed against Hutchinson for following too closely and driving with an improper license with more charges pending.
Platte College will hold pre registration the week of April for returning students and invite accepted high school entrants to pre register May 14. Advisors will assist. early registration reduces time at formal registration in August. Complete fall class schedules are available at student services.
Francis A. Rea, former Schuyler mayor and city attorney, received a 30 day jail term for failing to file federal income tax returns from 1960 to 1972. Judge Warren K. Urbam ordered consecutive weekend confinement starting April 11 and placed him on one year probation while holding him liable for taxes and penalties. He pleaded guilty to five counts of not filing returns showing income over 68 thousand dollars during the period.
Ten accidents were reported in the Columbus area over two days with two injuries from a one car rear end crash one mile west of Monroe. Injured were Philip Schornack Genoa and passenger David Ramaekers Genoa treated and released. A four car collision on 13th Street and 33rd Avenue caused no injuries with about 1150 dollars damage. Other listed incidents include numerous names and small damage amounts across several streets in Columbus.
