The program spans seven last words, dawn imagery, and hymns leading to Weep O Willow Tree and He Sees It All.

Schmit settles ice jam lawsuit in Platte County

State Senator Loran Schmit of Bellwood reaches an out-of-court settlement with Platte County over damages for breaking up a Platte River ice jam. Schmit, operator of Mid-American Helicopter Service, sought 88,800 for 29.6 hours of dynamite flights in 1971, but the settlement pays 26,640 at 900 per hour.

Fire disaster claims mother and four children in Huron

A mother Mrs. Floyd Kittinger and her four children Troy 15 Curtis 13 Brian 12 Jenifer 5 died when a three story home fire swept through near Huron downtown. Floyd Kittinger and Mrs. Christina Anderson were injured and hospitalized. Kittinger was an instructor at Huron High School.

Effective today the average 700 KWH monthly residential bill rises by 1.66 with a 2.375 mills PCA added to each kilowatt hour. General Manager Max Kiburz cites fuel cost surges since 1972 and ongoing conservation as factors, noting small consumers bear more impact while large users see little change. City Council Sets Wednesday Meeting Agenda

Board approves Platte County soil survey photos plan

The Year of Supervisors okayed a survey of Platte County soil maps with NERD partners. Photos cost up to 8670 dollars, with Platte County contributing 1667.50, and work will take 3 1 2 to 4 years. Election polling places for three new precincts in Columbus were approved. A 61 vote denied a 2500 request for district probation office costs. Nielsen Chevrolet won a police cruiser bid at 18560 and Rogers Riley bid 21764.47 for a hall of justice project.

Winter storm brings heavy snow to Nebraska Panhandle

A spring winter storm moved through Nebraska dumping up to 10 inches of snow in the Panhandle and prompting stockmen's advisories and a heavy snow warning. A winter storm watch covered much of the state with a wet, cold system from southwest Colorado expected to shift into eastern Oklahoma by Wednesday. Local reports at midday show 10 inches in O'Neill, five in Atkinson, six in Scottsbluff as temperatures range from the teens to mid 30s across regions.
