Republican leaders across the state push for a state convention to nominate a U S senator with a sound currency pledge. Five inmates attempted to flee the Indiana reformatory in Jeffersonville after lights out. Guards Hert and Garvin fired as two men, Campbell and Swartz, clawed through a roof hole. Campbell was captured, Swartz fell back, and all five escape attempts ended with arrests.
