City Council Advances Encampment and Street Improvements

City Council met in regular session approving minutes from prior meetings. A $200 warrant to fund decor for city buildings was authorized. Streets Thirteenth and Fifteenth received grading and prayer parts, and the teamsters ordinance passed. Several payrolls and bills were approved, with mention of city officials and local firms.

New Naval Squadron Formed For Hampton Roads Defense

Washington reports the creation of a new naval squadron to be stationed at Hampton Roads. It will start with five ships including battleships Massachusetts and Texas withdrawn from Key West duties.
