The Republican city committee on February 10 fixed a delegate basis for the May 1898 city elections. One delegate per 10 McKinley votes and one for each fraction over eight determined precinct totals leading to a final delegate count of 111. chairman A. B. Warden and secretary C. W. Moer names appear.
Mrs. Mary Werder and Mrs. Geo Brown travel to Taylorsville and Indianapolis for visits. Mrs. Fannie Thompson and Mrs. Anna Laird visit relatives in Edinburg Madison. W J Beck attends the Wilson case in Nashville and other locals plan moves to new homes on North Mechanic Street and nearby areas.
The pursuit of escaped prisoner Bill Downey in the mountains escalates as dogs track a trail toward Cattlesburgh. A rifle shot ends the danger momentarily, and detective Moon saves Downey before a gunfight erupts with Bees and Jim Bees. Jim is killed as Sampson fires. TO BE CONTINUED.

Frances E Williard, president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, died shortly after midnight at the Hotel Empire in New York. At her bedside were her niece Mrs. W W Baldwin, Mrs. U M M Stevens vice president W C T U, Miss Anna M Gordon her secretary, and Dr Alfred K Hi. Williard had been in for about three weeks.
Governor Mount declined to state a stance on the Maine disaster, urging patience for a thorough inquiry. He cited the classic motto temperance in all things and suggested external causes or insurrection by Cuban or Spanish actors could be investigated later. He noted offers of military service have already arrived as the situation develops.
