The article notes James Snyder, the oldest resident of Columbus, aged sixty-nine years, suffered a paralytic attack yesterday affecting his left side. It also describes a near fire at James Godfrey's home caused by drying shingles and a delayed dinner run, with neighbors averting major damage.
Franklin notes show regular council session with minutes approved, treasurer and sextons reports reviewed, and health officer report received. Ayers Asphalt Co. of Zanesville Ohio won the street paving contract at 1.59 per square yard and 65 cents per foot for curbing and gutter, with several city officials listed for compensation and a motion to open Cottage Ave. approved.
The county commissioners accepted the new Husuville court house valued at 25000 dollars. Architects A W Rush & Son of Grand Rapids and builders P W McCormack & Co of Columbus. The fireproof stone building features steel brick interior, 158 by 108 feet, 66 feet walls and 160 feet tower with marble and mosaic finishes and 53 rooms.
A handwritten invitation from February 1 1898 in Hartsville Indiana describes a planned gathering at the Planing Mill with a course of moves ending at a spot where a girl in a blue dress awaits. The text ominously mentions death by self harm and instructs following directed routes before dispersing.
Excitement in Taylorville as late Buos and Harry Anderson strike gas at 175 feet on Grant Verry’s farm. Gas blaze rises about 10 feet. Also notes Republican city committee meeting set for February 3 to elect a city chairman and handle business. Includes local ads for shoes and clothing in Columbus.
Miss Daisy Portner travels to Indiana polis while Fred Kollmeyer goes to Edinburg and Mrs John Singer visits Taylorsville this morning.
The event honored Misses Kate Taylor Mary Mahoney and Mrs W A Mooney and Col Stansifer with prizes and refreshments at a late hour. The guest list included numerous couples and Misses Corda Linton Sallie Stansifer Mary Mahoney Mattie Whitten and others. Cards will be entertained tonight in honor of Miss Alma Wat of Indianapolis. J Tormehlien builds a barber shop near Snively's store.
