A fierce gale swept several eastern states causing widespread damage and power outages. Meteorologists reported gusts reaching high speeds with downed trees and disrupted transportation as crews worked to restore service. Local officials urged caution and monitoring of weather advisories.
A powerful storm system blasts New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and beyond. Buildings topple, utilities fail, and several deaths and numerous injuries are reported as winds reach severe strength from Buffalo to Los Angeles.
Curran Illinois December 28 Mrs William North was buried after being declared dead three times and twice revived from trance like states. She died Saturday night and was found to be alive by Dr Foster with inconsistent body temperatures and a slow pulse. Despite repeated resuscitations she remained unconscious and was interred Wednesday afternoon amid public excitement.
In San Francisco on a Wednesday night two men named Ung Hing and Tick Ho Hong were killed by highbinders in Chinatown. Hing was stabbed and shot as he entered the Chinese theater, with Mok Lem identified as a suspect. Hong was murdered after a debtor who owed him money hired highbinders. both victims died from their wounds.
In St Paul Minnesota the cathedral hosted the consecration of three bishops. John Shanley becomes bishop of North Dakota James Moor Trick receives Duluth and Joseph Cotter takes Winona. Archbishop Treland led the ceremony with Rev Mgr OConnell and about twenty five bishops present. Rev Walter Elliott preached.

In Cleveland a laborer William Mc Donald died instantly after falling from a parapet, struck a telegraph wire, and tumbled to the sidewalk. A coal syndicate, Southern Coal Company, dissolves and thirteen firms resume independent operations.
A Indiana state convention of negroes formed an Afro American League to protect the colored race from outrages. Local branches will rise in counties with black populations as part of a national effort to aid negroes where rights are encroached, though specifics on aid were not explained.
