No legal call for meeting delays county debt action

Twelve Horses Destroyed in Lebanon Fire
A large horse and mule stable owned by W. W. Beasley burned in Lebanon Tennessee on October 2. The blaze destroyed feedstuff and most of the stock tied to a local sale, with about a wolf head of horses and milking stock lost. Beasley held insurance of 3300 but total loss neared 4000 not counting horses and mules. Origin of the fire is unknown.

Pittsburg Oct 26 William Montgomery former cashier of the Allegheny National Bank which failed for over 1 000 000 was found guilty by a United States District Court jury on two indictments charging embezzlement and abstraction of 449 000 He was then tried on the third indictment charging misapplication of 144 000 in bonds and was convicted on the earlier counts in the afternoon.

Special to The Herald from Union City Tennessee reports Tid Burton confessed involvement in the Lake County whipping of Squire Wynne and said he was in the crowd at Walnut Log near 7 oclock, but he did not ride with the group to the lake. He heard shots fired on the banks of the lake and claims he went fishing after briefly dining at a Walnut Log hotel.
