In Mt Pleasant on Sunday afternoon a crap game ended in gunfire. Doc Turner shot and killed Ed Weblen and fatally wounded Davis with a Winchester rifle. Turner fled south after demanding the money back, leaving Weblen dead and Davis critically wounded. Local and county officers pursued toward Broadview, with alerts across nearby towns. Chicago May 18 The Illinois Central stockholders at a special meeting approved directors plans to purchase the Kingston and Eastern and the Memphis and State Line Railroads. They also approved increasing the capital stock by 286120 shares to a total of 28552000 to fund construction and maintenance of lines now owned. The vote was 629,788 to 38 in favor. Henry W. Andrew Blair Arrested for Murder in Maury County
Andrew Blair, colored, was jailed Monday afternoon on a murder charge for the fatal shooting of Lou Fleming at Ross Bridges Maury County last Wednesday. Blair says the act was accidental and a warrant followed investigations by Ben Brown, the dead woman's brother. a loaded shotgun discharged at close range. Sheriff Webb made the arrest without trouble.
