F Phillips arrested in Sill on murder distribution charges tied to an old Jackson estate case. Hundreds of Oklahoma residents and thousands of filings referenced. Court action proceeds in chancery court with formal pleadings and hearings pending.
Historical report traces Bud Phillips alias Charles E Steele to a 1897 Mt Pleasant depot shooting of Tom Hightower and a later Comanche County murder. The McDowell School will begin its 1908-1909 term on Monday September 7 with an expected attendance rise. A capable staff will oversee nine months of instruction including principal L E Duke and teachers Miss Fannie Louise Smith Mrs Jesse Tomlinson Miss Janie Porter and Miss Mary Blackburn.
Robbers broke into the freight house at Godwin Station Tuesday night and stole six razors and some loaded shells. The cash drawer was broken but contained no money, leaving little loss. Entry was gained by breaking the window sash. little freight was present, so damage was limited.
At Maury County Democratic Convention held in the Circuit Court room the party nominated Capt A A Lipscomb and Hon W T Galloway for Representatives and endorsed Sen John E Greer of Perry county for the Senate. Nominees pledged to vote for Folk Goodloe Dibrell and Thomas. Lipscomb and Galloway accepted. The body, described as harmonious, adopted subcommittee reports, set temporary officers, and adjourned sine die.

Professors Spillman and Stewart of the United States Department of Agriculture will address Maury County farmers and truck growers at the courthouse next Tuesday August 1. Spillman will cover general farming forage crops and stock raising while Stewart discusses horticulture fruits and diseases with emphasis on melons a growing local industry. They will speak at 10 o'clock.
Felix Walker of Lewis county bought two farms totaling 284 acres near the Santa Fe pike from Billah Roan for 15500 and will move to Maury county. The river bottom land is highly regarded and well watered. Thomas and Huckaby brokered the sale. Stewart Green of Lyneville bought 140 acres of the Morgan Ogilvie farm two miles from town near Mt. Pleasant pike for about 101000.
Thomas H. Forgey and Thomas H. Peebles, two younger members of the local bar, have established a law partnership. They will occupy offices in the Frietyon building, moving across the hall from H. Dinning. Dr. Charles A. Forgey will also move his offices to the same building, in rooms once used by Carmack headquarters.
Alfred Freeman, who allegedly attacked Sem Gray at the Middle Tennessee Phosphate Plant, was brought from Columbia jail by Attorney R. Hopkins to face assault with intent to murder before Justice C. C. Rose. An escape attempt occurred as Freeman fled while the attorney rushed to catch a train, leaving the case uncertain.
