Colfax High School design and construction students win a $10,000 MIT grant for a storm drain solid waste remover. Teacher Jonathon Schwartz and junior Ken Jones led research and plan development. the project aims to separate solid waste from water and double as a public trash receptacle. The team says they will pursue design and prototype stages with funding.
Blood Source collected 23 pints at a Colfax drive held in front of the Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce railcar, near its Monday projection of 25 pints. Gayle Leyte notes daily regional needs of 750 pints, with 5 percent of eligible donors currently contributing. Laurie Ingram of Chicago Park credits convenience and participation, planning another drives locally.
At the upcoming Weimar Applegate Colfax Municipal Advisory Council meeting representatives from Union Pacific Railroad and the Federal Railroad Administration will address complaints dated Sept 2004. Issues include blocked entries in the Cape Horn area, sunlit trains, leaking lubricants, polluted water, and derailments linked to alleged poor maintenance in 2002 and 2003 across Cape Horn Gold Run and Blue Canyon, with Mount Lassen safety impacts and track improvements discussed since January 2003.
