Colfax resident Jim Bowers envisions every concrete slab and building wall as a canvas. He walks the town spotting weed patches and alleys as potential murals a way to spark local pride. Bowers aims to involve the community in art projects to foster ownership and belonging. He is currently painting a 24 foot long mural.
Meadow Vista will celebrate its 54th Pioneer Day Parade and Community Carnival on Sunday, June 1. Activities begin at 9 a.m. with a 5K Fun Run registration at 7:30 a.m. Parade entries—up to 50—start noon from Placer Hills Road and Combie Road to Meadow Vista Park, with post event activities in Meadow Vista Park.
California reports a safer holiday locally despite more statewide DUI arrests and fatalities over Memorial Day weekend. CHP notes seven accidents locally with one DUI arrest and about 140 citations including 20 for seat belts. Rollins Lake patrols stepped up safety checks as Marine Patrol focused on equipment compliance.
The Colfax City Council unanimously approved starting a project to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant to tertiary treatment. Alternatives to regional hookup or plant expansion were deemed infeasible. future regional connection remains under study. Plan due to Regional Water Quality Control Board by June 14 with upgrades costing about 5 million dollars, under a cease and desist order for past violations.
Colfax officials heard that current capacity of the Colfax Wastewater Treatment Plant remains uncertain. City Manager Bob Perrault urged informing future planning applicants of limited capacity and proceeding with caution on new building projects. Engineers Brown and Caldwell requested more time and studies to verify monitoring devices. With 10 to 15 percent capacity believed remaining, staff were told to continue capacity assessments.
