Forecasters warn of unstable May weather after a snowy weekend. CHP reports eight crashes from April 25 to 27, several spinouts, and two rollover collisions due to wet snow. Colfax rain totals rise to 42.62 inches in April while snowpack remains above 70 percent of average, with expectations of 15 to 16 inches of snow this April.
City of Colfax faces a California Regional Water Quality Control Board cease and desist order and plans to submit a corrective plan by mid June with completion by 2006. A May 6 workshop at 7 p.m. in council chambers will review three treatment options including upgrading at the current site, constructing a new plant downstream toward the North Fork of the American River, or tying into a regional Lincoln project.
Colfax volunteer firefighters, fresh from medical training with the California Department of Forestry, responded to a structure fire at Subway on Canyon Way on April 23. Investigators found a deliberate blaze in a rest room waste basket causing smoke in the business. Minutes later a second fire in a trash can outside the Colfax Theater burned out before crews arrived.
