Colfax residents face a choice on how to spend 200000 from Proposition 40 funded by bonds. The Parks and Recreation Commission hosts a March 22 city hall meeting to select a project including refurbishing historic sites and developing parks while preserving cultural resources.
The Colfax Community Resource Center celebrates its grand opening today from 1 to 6 PM with tours, refreshments, and a ribbon cutting at 4 30 PM. Attendees include County Supervisor Rex Bloomfield Mayor Sharon Gieras and CAPC director Karen Owen.
Colfax Elementary School District invites community members to join its budget development committee for the 2004 2005 budget year. Two openings available. meetings occur every two to three weeks from late March to mid June 2004. Call 346 2202 for more information.
Spring arrives as record highs mark March 10 to 13 and Rollins Lake overflows into the Bear River. Wildlife like ducks geese and Great Blue Herons occupy the near empty lake while boaters are few. Warm trend likely continues into next week with a slight shower chance and a weekend cooling to near 78. Rainfall remains above average at 35.70 inches year to date. A truck driver alerted authorities after helping Ruben Torres, 33, who fled a hit-and-run on I-80 near Blue Canyon at 3:30 a.m. Friday. The driver dropped Torres in Colfax, then contacted police, prompting CHP to locate Torres at a Starbucks drive-thru where he was detained. A rifle was found at the scene.
Colfax High launches two fundraisers for Grad Night 2004. A Bingo evening on Friday March 26 at 6 30 p m in the high cafeteria features 10 games with prizes from 30 to 100 and a 10 cost. A March 31 charity dine day at Applebys Restaurant on Bell Road in Auburn donates 20 percent of meal proceeds to Grad Night with flyers available at the school office.
Bruce Kranz, newly elected supervisor for Placer County District 5, says he will attend meetings before taking office in January 2005. A former parks chief, he emphasizes public safety and fraud watchdogs, plans full-time focus, and aims to join the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency while leveraging connections with state legislators.
