Wild and Scenic River Trails Guard Sierra Gorge Access
A Class Five river runs through steep Sierra canyons with limited road access. Trails along the American River Canyon on Forestall Gold Run and Giant Gap sides date to mining days. Most rafting occurs April to June when flows exceed 1000 cfs. Ranger Johnson oversees 90 staff for recreation and forest upkeep.
