A two day auction is scheduled for August ninth and tenth featuring machines and related items. Don Dougherty describes life as an incredible experience with these machines and the people encountered on the journey.
Don Dougherty, Colfax Public Works Director and lifelong restorer, plans auctioning more than 750 items from his fifty year, five project backlog. The August 9-10 sale will feature his largest Autocar dump truck collection, heavy equipment, vintage jacks, tools, a 1940s four cylinder outboard, gas pumps, and auto memorabilia. Auctioneers Kruse International will oversee the event in Colfax.
Colfax officials approve a unified July 4 celebration with a Friday fireworks display and music parades and family activities. The city will avoid July 3 events to reduce crowding and security issues, while planning a future coalition of groups for ongoing Fourth of July festivities.
July fourth festivities on Main Street feature a morning Firemen's Breakfast at Colfax Firehouse from 7 to 10 am. A street faire with arts crafts runs 9 am to 9 pm alongside a food court beer garden and music. Activities include a climbing wall dunk tank and a Colfax Lions Club program at 9:30 pm followed by a pyrotechnic display ending the day.
Colfax Elementary School District teams await California’s stalled state budget to finalize their 2003 2004 budget. Superintendent Gayle Garbolino Mojica says the district must revise once Sacramento approves funds. Board approved a provisional budget amid uncertainty and warns of drastic changes if the delay continues past July.
Lauraine Bacon, 42, founder of The Rainbow Company, builds bridges between promoters, distributors and artists in the Colfax area. After promoting musicians in the Bay Area, she broadened to fine art, organizing Colfax’s first Art Stroll in 2002 and planning a Rainbow Gallery exhibit titled Art of Music on June 25.
