Colfax hosts an old fashioned Fourth of July with a downtown street fair from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Vendors set up earlier as the Lions Club parade winds through downtown at noon. The three day Schoeppner carnival returns with tickets and booths offered by the Chamber of Commerce and local sponsors.
Schedule for Colfax July Fourth events includes a downtown parade 1:30 p.m. and street faire from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. with live acts Legato, Stoney Grooves, Wild Duck, Auburn Drumline, and Eddy D and the Cruisers. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. A separate Dutch Flat procession watch at 10 a.m. Volunteers urged. calls to the Chamber of Commerce at (530) 346-8888.
Colfax gears up for its Lions Club Fourth of July parade with sun hats water and lawn chairs. Local entries encouraged to join the noon march led by Grand Marshal Lance Corporal Keith Pratt USMC with 26 to 30 participating groups expected. Entry fee is seven dollars and gathering is 10 to 11 a.m. at Oak and South Auburn.
Schoeppner Shows carnival rides and concessions arrived in Colfax for the 4th of July events and will stay two more days. Phil Schoeppner notes travel year round with January and February off and a shift from Midwest routes to California. He recalls carnival roots from his uncle in the 1960s and a family business since 1982, with California regulations proving manageable after initial concerns.
