Storms bring rain floods and lightning across Sierra region
Storms dumped heavy rain and lightning along Interstate 80 in the Sierra foothills from August 21 into August 22. Five vehicle crashes occurred between Dry Creek and Bell Roads as storm drains backed up, water covered overpasses, and emergency crews worked to contain the runoff. A later August 23 lightning fire near Iowa Hill was small and contained, with earlier strikes sparking a debris fire in Meadow Vista and a tree fire in Winchester Estates. No injuries were reported.
