Weather drives firefighting needs over Labor Day weekend
Unseasonal dry lightning and red flag alerts sparked multiple fires across Placer and nearby counties. A 300 acre blaze north east of Foresthill prompted strikes teams to the Santa Clara area before returning to Colfax. A tanker crash near Auburn carried jet fuel to aid efforts as crews battled fires along the Bear River and Highway 20 corridors.

Colfax Elementary Teacher Placed on Paid Administrative Leave
The Colfax Elementary School District Board suspended a certificated teacher with pay at its August 20 meeting amid an investigation into questionable Internet chat room activity. Superintendent Gayle Garbolino-Mojica said the board acts with students and staff welfare in mind. The teacher’s name remains withheld until cleared or charged.

Founder's Day celebrates Colfax history at Railroad Park
Colfax marks Founder's Day on September 13 at Railroad Park in front of the historic depot. A 10 30 a m dedication and installation of a plaque on the Schuyler Colfax statue will be donated by E Clampus Vitus 3 Lord Sholto Douglas. The day features a garden sale plant sales living history tours and activities led by the Colfax Lions Club with vendors crafts and exhibits.
