Fifteen-car crash halts interstate near train trestle
A 15-car chain reaction halted westbound I-80 east of the train trestle for five hours after a big rig fire. CHP officer Rich Ruiz said the truck, fully engulfed, carried asphalt and roofing materials and blocked traffic, injuring drivers but causing no deaths. Caltrans diverted motorists onto Rollins Lake Road into Colfax as responders from CHP, CAL FIRE and Placer Hills FD arrived.

Suspected Drunk Driving Causes I-80 Collisions and Arrest
A Colfax man, Herbert Harrison, 68, was arrested on July 28 on suspicion of driving under the influence after two I-80 crashes near Colfax. His Ford pickup struck a minivan and later hit a tree off the Colfax offramp. Harrison was booked at Placer County Jail.
