More Than 700 Entries At 1963 Clifton Fair Home Economics Show

More than 700 entries were judged in the Home Economics Show at the 1963 Cent Texas Fair and Rodeo in Clifton. Laverne Matula of Hill County and Sheila Bissingame of Star Route Clifton led junior and senior divisions as rosette winners in multiple categories including Clothing Textiles, Home Canned Foods, Home Baked Products, Crafts, and Art. Bosque and Coryell County contestants earned top rosettes in various classes.

Crowds Thrive at Clifton Central Texas Rodeos

Three rodeos under the Clifton Hore association drew strong crowds over a three night run at the Central Texas Fair. Johnny Clark of Fort Worth led earnings with 252.50 across bareback riding and bull riding. Event winners include LeRoy Hodges Tuscola calf roping and C Buck Evans Dublin steer wrestling, among others. Clifton 4H riders and a Bosque County trophy highlighted the kickoff parade.

Mrs. Albert Gloff returned to the Clifton Sunset Home after hospital care on September 25 following a September 19 medical stay. Mrs FE Shotts met her sister in Dallas and plans to host her in Clifton. the sisters had not met in 20 years. Frank Freeman became a patient at Clifton hospital September 21 and returned home September 25. Tom G Parks resigned from Parmers State Bank to run the Parks Hereford Ranch near Clifton. Mrs H F Sanders returned home after hospitalization begun September 16. Erich Arnold and family and Leonard Mathews families visited Clifton residents in Hewitt, with ties to the Caldwell and Ezell families. Oscar Omenson has been under care at Clifton hospital since September 21. Clyde Caldwell and Forrest Ezell, cousins of R W and C H Caldwell, visited relatives in Ardmore and Ada last weekend.

William Sager Dies Suddenly at 78 in Clifton

William Sager age 78 years 11 months 11 days of 611 West 7th Street Clifton died suddenly between 11 00 and 12 00 Wednesday morning September 25 Miss Elsie Sager found her brother near the garage and called the Clifton ambulance He died en route to the local hospital of a heart attack Funeral services set for 3 00 Friday September 27 at the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev J E Morton with burial in Clifton Cemetery A complete obituary to follow next week in The Record

Mrs Boyles Dies After Long Illness in Clifton

Mrs. Rob ert E Boyles aged 89 years and 10 days died at about noon Monday September 23 in a local hospital after years of failing health. Born Katherine Elizabeth Bertrand in Fayette County September 13 1874 she moved to Clifton as a child and later lived in Fort Worth and Waco. She married Robert E Boyles December 24 1893 and lived in Clifton till retirement in 1952. She had no children but was a devoted aunt and active church member with interests in needlework and sewing. She is survived by relatives and friends not named here.

Floats Win in 1963 Central Texas Fair Parade

The Clifton VFW the Bosque County 4H Clubs and Clifton FHA won first to third place in the fair parade held Thursday afternoon. Prizes of 15 10 and 5 were awarded by the Central Texas Fair Association. Bosque County’s 4H Riding Club was praised for best performance and dress among riding clubs.

Tax statement arrival and poll tax changes in Bosque County

Bosque County Tax Assessor-Collector Earl R Behringer says 1963 tax rolls are approved and tax statements go out about October 1. Poll tax collections for 1964 start October 1. November 9 votes will decide voter registration under a proposed amendment with costs of 25 cents or 1 75 depending on outcome. Exemptions and affidavits vary by age and location. those under 21 gain exemptions later, and seniors may be exempt in some areas.

Committee Named For Band Parents

Clifton Band Parents Association held its first meeting of the year at 7 30 pm Tuesday in the Band Hall. President Jerry Godby led the session as secretary treasurer read last minutes. Fundraising has raised about 2054 00 for new uniforms for Clifton High School Band. The committee plans to order sweaters jackets and caps to equip junior and senior members and ensure some marching caps are available. New committees include Program and Entertainment chaired by J L Standefer Jr with members J R Hill Mrs G B Arnold and Dr T C Eggen.
