E. B. Harris leads an effort to bring back members of Clifton Highs 1918 football squad for the November 13 homecoming weekend. Plans include recognizing returning players at the November 1 game with Tiasea, a dinner for 18 at the School Cafeteria, and a Sunday luncheon and guest preacher at First Presbyterian Church.

Bearden Leads Clifton Cotton Ginning as 1968 Begins
A. R. Bearden of Star Route 1 Clifton near Coyote received the first 1968 bale of cotton at the Roye Payne Gin in Clifton. He followed with eleven more bales to make the initial dozen ginned, the first bale weighing 515 pounds and signed on Wednesday September 18.

Final Rites for R. L. Lane Held Saturday
Funeral services for R. L. Lane 52 Clifton businessman and church leader were held at 2 p m Saturday at First Methodist Church. Lane died September 19 from injuries in a two car crash near Womack while returning from a Dallas trip. Interment was in Clifton Cemetery beside his wife.

Death Toll in Clifton Traffic Crashes Rises This Year
Clifton area sees multiple wrecks boosting Bosque County 1968 highway deaths to six. Among the dead are Jessie Barrett 59 and Marion Barrett 62 in a head on crash on FM Road 219. Robert Lane 58 in the same collision. Elmo Eubank seriously injured and later improving in Temple. A separate collision on Highway 6 injured Eubank and Schulz. A minor crash on 7th Ave left Pierson and Higginbotham uninjured.

Hunter Sniffs Out Skunks as Clifton Kills 26
Residents report a nightly odor and shooting as a City Council approved hunter, with permission, killed 26 skunks and two armadillos along Farm Road 219 west and near Clifton Motel. Skunks, rabies carriers, had plagued streets for weeks. The council barred youth from joining the effort and reminded that firing within city limits requires special permission and may lead to arrest.

Project Hope Meet Aims At Racial Harmony In Clifton
A final meeting for Project Summer Hope will be held Monday Sept 30 at 7 30 p m in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Clifton. The non denominational effort began in early summer at Trinity Lutheran Church and aims to foster conversation between white and black residents to promote understanding and equality. The meeting will evaluate the program to date decide on continuation and possibly rename and reorganize the group with priorities for next work. All Clifton area residents who share the forefathers' belief in equality are urged to attend.

Clifton ranks high among Texas towns around 3,000 in population for sales tax checks. A Texas Municipal League report shows Clifton receiving a net $7,320 from the 1 percent local tax, after $523 deductions, with a population estimate of 2,800. Other small cities, like Llano and Olmos Park, posted larger checks, while towns such as Donna and Lake Worth received smaller sums.
