Clifton High School counselor Mrs. Homer Spence announces James A. Petrich as a National Merit Semifinalist for 1968 69. Semifinalists are among the nation’s top high school seniors and can compete for about 3 000 scholarships. Finalists are chosen from this group. winners may receive up to 1 500 yearly four year merit awards and 1 000 stipends on college enrollment.

Driving Test Demonstration At Clifton High School
Clifton High School students will watch a two part driving safety demonstration at 9 00 a m on October 4 1968. Ben Bullard and Kent Appleby of the Texas Farm Bureau oversee a car mounted paint bullet system to show stopping distances at 20 30 and 40 mph with police officers as drivers. The event aims to raise highway safety awareness and is sponsored by the Bosque County Farm Bureau.

Meridian Man Hurt After Two Vehicle Wreck
A 77 year old Meridian man moved from fair to serious condition at Hillcrest hospital after a two vehicle crash in Meridian Monday. Charlie Otto Sepert was driving a 1950 Chevrolet that collided with a 1968 Ford pickup pulling a loaded stock trailer at State Highway 174 and F Street. Melvin Carl Dahn, 41, of Cleburne, was the pickup driver and not hurt. The crash occurred at 1 10 p.m. Monday when Sepert failed to yield during a left turn. Damage was estimated at 1000 dollars to the truck and 100 dollars to the other vehicle.

Local Man Burned In Garage Blaze
Mike Young of 1012 Mary Street Clifton was treated for arm burns after gasoline fumes ignited by a pilot light in a garage hot water heater. Clifton Fire Dept arrived with two trucks and extinguished the blaze with no property damage. Young was taken to Goodall Witcher Hospital. Authorities urged sightseers to yield to emergency vehicles to allow firefighters swift access.
