The Texas Highway Department began construction of a temporary 20 by 30 foot laboratory building for the resident engineer T. H. Ralph. It will test road base soils and materials and store equipment and records. Materials are pre cut in Waco and assembly is expected in one to two weeks. The facility can be moved if larger quarters are built later. Parade, livestock show feature Clifton Fair schedule
Clifton gears up for the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo with a Saturday rodeo close following three performances. Mercantile Starts Remodeling Work in Clifton
Clifton Mercantile Company began an extensive remodeling program led by Roy Herring of Waco. A new steel framed front with glass and steel will be added, and the grocery and dry goods areas will receive dropped ceilings upgraded lighting and air conditioning. The Cozy Corner Cafe space will be absorbed into the grocery area to provide more floor space and the furniture department will gain more space and better displays. The project will take several months with aims to improve efficiency after completion.

Mrs Canuteson Dies In Fort Worth at 92
Mrs Ella Farrar Canuteson aged 92 years 8 months 23 days died in Fort Worth on Sunday night September 18 following a two and one half month illness. She lived years between Clifton and Meridian before moving to Fort Worth where she spent the last 30 years. She is survived by two sons Chris and Sam. two daughters Clara Dickson and Nell Race. five grandchildren and a sister. Funeral services were in Fort Worth with graveside at Meridian Cemetery.
