Local Teachers Attend District X Workshop in Killeen

Miss Lottie Bettis and Mrs. E B Harris of Clifton High School joined district leaders for an all day Texas State Teachers Association workshop at the Cowhouse Motel in Killeen on September 12. Avery Downing presided as District X president with keynote by L P Sturgeon. Attendees from the Texas Education Agency included F L Galyean Traxel Stevens A H Houser Earl Cantrell and Dr Richard Bowles serving as consultants. Reports followed lunch as sessions discussed amendments for the November election and new educational trends. Bettis sits on the TSTA Executive Committee and Harris chairs the Bosque County Unit program.

American Legion to Sponsor Barbecue and Drive in Clifton

Erich Herzog of Clifton's Selmer Erickson Post No 322 says a barbecue supper at 7:00 p.m. Thursday September 24 in Clifton City Park will start the post's annual membership drive. All Legion members urged to attend and prospective members invited. Claude Graves and his singers plan a third Sunday singing at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home Sunday September 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the chapel. all invited to attend and participate.

Quorum Sought for Clifton Band Parents Meeting

The Clifton Band Parents Association opens its 1964 65 year with a 7 30 p m meeting Monday September 21 in the Band Hall at the local schools. Secretary treasurer Mrs L P Schrantz urges all parents of Clifton High School Band members to attend as officers will be elected and funds for uniforms and instruments discussed. The May meeting lacked a quorum, delaying officer selections.

Clifton Future Farmers elects new officers for 1964 65

The Clifton Chapter of the Future Farmers of America held a called meeting on September 7 to elect officers for the 1964 65 school year. Elected were Lloyd Hampe president Melvin Prescher vice president Henry Bridger secretary Doug Phillips treasurer Gary Holt reporter James Carpenter sentinel Keith Hold advisor.

Two Lives Lost In Fiery Truck Train Crash

Two train crew members died when a Santa Fe diesel engine collided with a Western Transport Company gasoline truck at the depot crossing in downtown Clifton. The crash damaged the engine and cars, ignited a large fire, and disrupted long distance lines. A truck driver and a local motorist were treated for burns and injuries, while 81 passengers were unharmed but shaken. Police filed negligent homicide charges against the truck driver.

Central Texas Fair entries rise for livestock and exhibits

Homer McDougal, president of the Central Texas Fair Association, estimates about 250 cattle in the Junior Livestock Division and around 600 entries in Home Economics at Clifton fair this week. The event introduces the Home Economics display at the National Guard Armory with Mrs. Raymond Lammert supervising. Entries hail from Bosque, Hamilton, Hill, McLennan, and Erath counties, with notable new entrants in the Junior Livestock Division. Added attractions include two nightly rodeo performances and musical acts on the fairgrounds stage, featuring Miss Gailetta and The Dixie Six along with Clifton High School band performances Thursday and Saturday nights.

Parade Route and Timings for Clifton Fair Parade

The 1964 Central Texas Fair Parade sets at 5:00 PM Thursday with route details. Arthur Hyles says entries must be in position by 4:30 PM and judging awards of 15, 10, and 5 dollars go to top floats from the Central Texas Fair Association, Clifton Horse Show will award a trophy for best riding club performance and dress.

Home Show to Feature 1944 Clifton Fair Exhibits

Clifton plans a larger Home Show at the 1964 Central Texas Fair and Rodeo housed in the National Guard Armory. Perney M Rogstad Receives Draft Service Citation

Perney M Rogstad of Route 2 Clifton Texas received a Presidential citation and emblem for twenty years as co chair on the Bosque and Erath County draft board. Masonic Lodge Workshop Planned for September 29

Clifton Cubs Rout Meridian 59-0 on Home Field

Clifton Cubs overwhelmed Meridian Yellowjackets 59 to 0 Friday night in a non conference game. Coach Roberts played all players to gain experience as Tommy Traylor scored twice and had a 41 yard reception, James Haywood added a 26 yard TD, and John Outlaw finished the half with a three yard run to make it 32-0.
