Countians Plan Austin Trip For Governor Word's Day

Bosque County residents prepare to send delegations to Austin for Governor for a Day events on September 20. Sen. Word will be sworn in, host a 7:30 p.m. banquet at the Terrace Motor Hotel, with buses chartered from Meridian and Clifton at $5 to $5.25 per seat depending on full occupancy.

PTA Opens 1969 70 Year With Supper Meeting

The Clifton PTA holds its first meeting of the 1969-1970 school year on Monday September 15 in the school cafeteria. A covered dish supper starts at 7 p.m. followed by a business session. Elementary teachers grades 4-6 will host classroom visits after the meeting. Parents should bring food and supplies. coffee tea bread plates napkins provided. PTA President James Tarpley invites all parents to attend.

Meridian Boy Dies After Being Struck by Truck

A six year old boy died in Hillcrest Hospital Waco Tuesday from injuries suffered when struck by a pickup while crossing Highway 144 in Meridian. The accident involved Donald Klose of Meridian driving the pickup. Funeral services were set for 10 am Thursday at St Olaf Lutheran Church Cranfills Gap with burial in Norse Cemetery. Survivors include his parents Gary and A M Anderson Jr., one brother, grandparents and other relatives.

Clifton Council studies future water needs and proposes new well

The Clifton City Council voted to hire a water engineering firm to assess current supply and locate a potential new water well and storage tank for next year. They cited near maximum use, rising consumption, and risk if population or industry grows or a facility fails. The council also kept Jess Hammock CPA for the annual audit and unanimously praised State Senator J P Ward for Senate leadership and the Governor for a Day honor.

County Asked to Increase Donations to Help Victims

Careful on the scene estimates show damage from Hurricane Camille worse than first appraisal. The American Red Cross calls for higher county quotas with Bosque County set at 359 dollars. Mrs Charles Isenkhower appeals to residents to donate to aid about 69,000 families suffering losses. By press time 177 dollars had been raised at Farmers State Bank in Clifton.
