Senator Connally of Texas voiced unqualified support for President Avila Camacho's Western Hemisphere peace proposal. He praised Mexico for backing the pact outlawing disputes and highlighted the neighboring republics as good, friendly neighbors.
An August Sunday wedding at six thirty in Cranfiel Colorado joined Eunice Nelson daughter of Abner and Cranfiel residents, to Herman Mickelson son of John and Mrs Mickelson. The ceremony featured Margie Culp Woodral Wickman bridesmaids and Cecil Rhone as best man with Daryl Sam Rumell pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. The Colwick Reunion occurred at Jocal City Park on a Sunday in late August drawing 110 attendees from Craig Colorado Oklahoma City Durant Dick Anson Kilgore Caddo Weldon Turnersville Coolidge and other towns. Organizers named Amor Exgen as president with Calvin Golwick and J. Mr. Brofiad as helpers and plans were made to host the next gathering on a date in 1942.
Floyd Sorley resigns from Clifton High School where he served as teacher and assistant athletic coach. He accepts a similar position at Cameron Public School, citing pay concerns but expressing regret at leaving Clifton. Sorley and his wife have moved to Cameron.
John Edward Petterson died Sunday afternoon August 31 after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was born October 14, 1860 in Hollemaes Sweden and came to America at thirteen, living near Clifton. He married Anna Sindarud in 1889 and Mathes Sinderud in 1908, with a total of ten children born and several surviving. He directed church choirs, served as secretary of local organizations, and was aged eighty years ten months seventeen days. He leaves his wife, six children in Clifton, three sisters, and five grandchildren.
Lieut Elbert Helton of the Air Corps based in Salt Lake City Utah and David Helton of the U S Signal Corps from Angelo Texas visited home over the weekend. Elbert piloted a four motored bomber with seven crew members over Clifton while Betvid and Dallas connections traveled by bus. The party returned to Salt Lake Monday afternoon after a furlough.
Community Natural Gas appoints Miss Winnell Cantrell as home economist for the Corsicana division to aid customers with cooking and kitchen equipment. Local Lions Club meets with regular attendance as concerns about an army camp near Clifton prompt discussion of land surveys and potential displacement of families.
September 8 opens the term with W C Brushears as Superintendent and Kent Appleby as High School Principal. Millie Bronstad leads Elementary, while J L Gerloff, J C Larkin, and Curtis Pederson join home making and English science duties. Several high school teachers remain to be elected.
