A man hired by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles for eighteen months earned a law enforcement certificate in Ohio and completed 40 hours of training at the Heart of Texas Police Academy in Waco to study the Texas Penal Code. He is married with three sons.
Charles Lee Ford and Robert Bailey joined the Clifton Police Department to fill vacancies created by resignations. Ford, a former Dallas Housing Authority security officer, completed 385 hours at the North Texas Regional Police Academy and is married with two children. Bailey brings 12 years in municipal law enforcement and previously served with Hamilton Police Department as a state investigator. Chief Alvin James made the appointments.
The Commissioners Court approved buying a Ford LTD with police package from Maddux Western Ford for 5976.42 and rejected a 125 trade in on a 1971 Ford, to be sold bidder. Sheriff Bax ter favored the heavier model for safety and pursuit use. county plans annual replacements to keep three-year service life.
Bosque County Commissioners Court raised pay for election judges to 17.50 per day and clerks to 15 per day starting with the upcoming state election. Mileage 14 cents per mile for ballot transport. Polls open 7 AM to 7 PM on election day. Six-person election teams to cover Clifton, Laguna Park, Meridian and Valley Mills. Ed Creech named presiding judge for precinct 20. Vera Turner as alternate. Court now Meets on second and fourth Mondays.
Clifton residents are urged to attend the annual PTO carnival at Clifton Elementary School from 5 to 9 p.m. Activities include games, a spook house, bingo, wheel of fortune, a hayride, and bake sales. Proceeds fund school equipment and materials.
Daylight saving time ends this weekend. Clocks and watches should be turned back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday.
The Clifton High School Class of 1947 gathers for their sixth post graduation reunion with former teachers and friends. They recall shared memories from grade school days to football exploits, and enjoy activities at Cub Stadium high school campus including pizza in the cafeteria and a Lock Hop in the gym.
Three arrests by Clifton police over the past week include Alfred Louis Opera released on 1500 bond after a burglary charge. another adult male fined and released for driving without a license. and an adult female at Goodall Witcher Hospital Foundation charged with public intoxication and fined.
Clifton High coach Don Hennig says the Cubs can win at Cub Stadium Friday if they play as well as they did against Whitney. Troy Trojans visit with a 2 1 record, led by quarterback Craig McMurtry and tailback Ernest Martin as they seek a road upset.
Clifton Volunteer Fire Department responded to four calls this past week. On Oct 18 two trucks fought a car fire on State Highway 6. Oct 19 two trucks battled a tractor wiring fire at the Harold Wiede property southeast of Clifton. A car fire hit Herman Keeton's residence at 314 South Ave E on Thursday. The department helped Valley Mills VFD at a Mosheim house fire Friday.
Local farmers boosted Bosque County gross receipts to 18.606 million dollars last year from 18.222 million, a 2.1 percent rise while national net income fell to 23.3 billion from 32.2 billion in 1973. Most income came from livestock and related products. Inflation pushed costs up, limiting net gains despite higher gross.
The 26th annual Central Texas Polled Hereford Association sale in Clifton at 12 30 p m Saturday honors Carl Sheffield of Brookesmith. Sheffield began with three cows and a bull in 1930 and has a lasting presence in local consignment sales, with 1964 grand champion bull among his achievements.
The annual American Heart Association Cyclethon will be held Saturday at Meridian Track. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Entry blanks are available at county schools and banks or from Joy Schmidt Cyclothon Chairman Box 448 Clifton telephone 675-8351.
