Poage Appreciated By Bosque County At Barbecue

A crowd of over 250 from Bosque County attended the Bob Poage Appreciation Barbecue at Clifton's National Guard Armory on October 22. Congressman Poage spoke of his duties and voting record, thanked mourned friends, and discussed legislative topics while family and local officials looked on. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Leck returned to Fort Worth after a hospital checkup on his injured arm, with possible further surgery expected.

Former Clifton School Head Dies

E. M. Pharr, 77, Lampasas publisher and longtime Texas school administrator, died October 17 in a Burnet hospital. He led Clifton and other districts, owned Lampasas Record 1925 58, then Dispatch Record, and earlier ran Detroit News. Survived by wife, son Weltin Pharr, daughter Mrs. Kenneth Cook, five grandchildren, sister Mrs. Wayne Piper.

Meller-Drammer Set For Clifton Harvest Carnival

Clifton High Cubs opened district play with a 21 to 0 victory over Alvarado at Cub Stadium. Waco PCA Plans 29th Annual Clifton Meeting

The Production Credit Association will hold its 29th annual meeting at the National Guard Armory in Clifton starting 10:00 A.M. on Saturday with 9:00 A.M. registration. Bohac Sisters will entertain from Granger, and Dr. Ralph Durham of Texas Tech will speak. Directors will be elected, reports heard, and a barbecue lunch served.

Former CHS Classmates Visit Clifton For Homecoming

Clifton High School former students gathered in Clifton on October 18 and 19 for Homecoming activities. A turkey dinner served by Junior Class mothers preceded the football game with Alvarado, the Scribble Party, and a Saturday night dance at the National Guard Armory. The 1913 class, celebrating its 50th reunion, was photographed at the dinner with many members and relatives listed from Clifton, San Antonio, Beaumont, Houston, Dallas, and other cities.

Local Bank Offers Nonprofit Student Loans in Clifton

Clifton's Farmers State Bank announced it will provide nonprofit loans to college students under the United Student Aid Funds program. Undergraduate students may borrow up to 1000 dollars yearly and graduates up to 2000 dollars until a total of 4000 dollars is reached. Loans are repaid after graduation. President Hulen Aars said the program helps students meet costs and build self-reliance.

Clifton cattle and grain prices from Thursday market report

Prices quoted Thursday morning for Wednesday's Clifton auction include eggs at 33c per dozen for large A, 28c for A medium and B large, and 15c for fitless pullets. Grain shows oats 80c per bushel and milling wheat 1.85, spring wheat 1.60, barley 9.00 per cwt, millet 1.85, yellow corn 1.25. Cattle volume near 800 head with steady against last week. steers and yearlings 22-23.50, butchers calves 21-22.75, stocker steers 23-25.50, steer calves 26-30, cows 13-15.50, cows and calves 120-175. Hogs 15.60.
